Introduction: 10:00 – 10:20

Greetings, Agenda Review – Amanda Brown-Stevens, Greenbelt Alliance?

Affordable Housing: 10:30 – 12:00 – Amie Fishman, East Bay Housing Organization (EBHO)

Facilitated discussion: What barriers and/or successes have we faced as CBOs and non-profits to getting affordable housing in our communities? Turn to your neighbors and answer this, then answer in a large group.

Panel discussion with developers on challenges and creative solutions to getting more affordable housing.

1.      Describe how affordable housing development and finance happens – give an example of development from start to finish? Where in timeline do local partners fit in?

2.      Describe barriers and opportunities

3.      Success stories – developing community partnerships, benefits, successful process

Lunch: 12:00 – 1:00

Activity connecting planning processes and community health

Being strategic in communicating the connection between health and land use

Group practice – in groups of three, practice communicating your issue with whomever you want to reach (reporter, elected official, community group, etc.)

Commercial Corridors and Working with Local Merchants: 2:40 ­– 3:40 – Jacob Schultz, Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC)

Priorities and strategies on attracting/retaining businesses/services

Closing Comments, Evaluation, and Networking: 3:40 – 4:00

Next steps for the Great Communities Collaborative and evaluation of today’s events. Plus, an opportunity to talk with folks from the other sites about their campaigns.
